Beach towels, chairs, toys, a umbrella and food were carried across the hot summer sand. The feeling of sand between our toes and the water splashing around as we staked our claim on a prime spot was one of the best summer feelings. Our area was set and we were busy building sand castles, riding boogie boards, and relaxing in the beach chairs. Now these things are fond memories of a summer that went by too quickly.

Now we have traded these things in for school books, lunches, running for the bus, after school snacks, sports and activities!Staying hydrated for all these activities and the places we go is a really important part of our day! I pack a Nestlé® Pure Life® Water in their school lunches, activity bags, and in the car as a reminder of the water they should be drinking!
Did you know that in a survey recently conducted by Nestlé® Pure Life® they found that:
“Drinking water is one of the biggest “healthy habit” struggles moms have with their kids (38%), even more than struggles like “eat your fruit” (29%), “get enough exercise” (23%), and “eat your breakfast” (19%). Moms don’t give regular water reminders. Barely half of moms (52%) regularly remind their child to drink water”.

This made me really pause and think how much water are my kids really drinking and is it enough?

I head to Walmart to stock up on the different sized water bottles! Nestlé® Pure Life® Water is a proud supporter of the Partnership for a Healthier America’s Drink Up Initiative. Nestlé® Pure Life® Water is committed to helping families make good healthy choices, like the importance of staying hydrated! I was able to find this water in 2 places while I shopped!
My blonde sweet girl is in charge of putting a water bottle in everyone’s cupholder when we go places in our SUV. This little job responsibility makes her feel important and she has gotten creative. She takes a sharpie and writes little notes and draws personalized pictures for everyone! Sometimes she even tapes on a mint to the top so we can have fresh breath!
Nestlé® Pure Life® recently surveyed moms and kids:

“According to 88% of moms surveyed*, water is the beverage their child most regularly drinks in the car. Make this a healthy habit by making sure that each child has a bottle of water in hand before they leave the house.”
We also jazz our Nestlé® Pure Life® Water up when we eat our meals at home. We create a pitcher of fresh fruits like peaches and blackberries and toss in some mint leaves from the garden. We also love adding fresh basil and lemon or strawberries to create a refreshing drink.
Here are 5 amazing Tips On How To Stay Hydrated by Robin Plotkin:
1. 33% of kids surveyed* find it hard to remember to drink water without reminders. One suggestion to remind kids to drink more water during play dates or other group events is to designate an adult Water Captain to help with hydration. The captain sets an alarm on his/her phone for various intervals, depending on conditions such as the temperature, the type and level of play. Each time the alarm sounds, the group breaks for water.

2. Together with your child, set a water intake goal. Create a chart or a graph (or log it online) and help them meet their goals with frequent reminders throughout the day. If goals are met, reward with a water-centric item such as a personalized water bottle or a novelty straw.

3. Drink a cup when you wake up. Create a routine that involves drinking 1 cup of water upon waking. Simply leave a supply of disposable paper cups near the sink. Much like washing the face and brushing teeth, this will quickly become a regular part of the morning for each family member.
4. Talk as a family about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. In addition to eating a well balanced diet and getting regular exercise, discuss drinking water and getting enough sleep as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. A recent survey* found that kids who drink 4+ glasses of water per day are more likely to exhibit healthy habits, such as getting their own water when they are thirsty or eating their fruit and vegetables at meal times without reminders.

5. Using age appropriate concepts, talk to your kids about the importance of hydration. For young children, explain that it helps them stay cool when they are hot; for older, school-aged children, remind them that even mild to moderate dehydration can negatively impact mood, energy, concentration and short term memory—which are all important when studying, taking exams or playing sports.
