You’ve come to the right place for an easy recipe that creates these salt dough ornaments, a gift tag printable, and all the household products that helped keep us clean along the way!
For a long time, I have had several friends share their love for shopping at Costco for all their household and food needs! After a few months of hearing them chat about their experiences, I decided to go with one of them to do some shopping for my family! I had the best time stocking up on all the items we use on a daily basis!
Now that the holiday season is here and cookie baking and ornament creating is underway I went back to Costco to load up on all our P&G household products! Being able to buy enough to last the whole holiday season really comes in handy when creating gifts like salt dough ornaments!
This fun to create holiday project can get a little messy and it’s so helpful to have great household products on the scene to help with the clean up!
Bounty truly is the quicker picker upper as we cleaned up flour and water spills while stirring the dough!
It’s Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to the rescue once again as the glitter clung to the counter tops and cabinets, and nothing gets our clothes clean quite like Tide Pods!
As this holiday ornament making started I was sure glad to be armed with these great P&G household products!
To create these salt dough ornaments you only need 3 or 4 ingredients, a clear varnish to make them shine and some ribbon to jazz them up! Oh, and I forgot to mention glitter for a little-added pizazz!
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup kosher salt
- 1/2 cup water
- cookie cutters
- non toxic finishing varnish (I used Modge Podge)
- drinking straw
- glitter
- Preheat Oven to 250F
- In a large bowl combine flour, salt, and water together. Add more water a little at a time if necessary.
- Roll dough into a ball.
- On a floured surface roll out the dough.
- Using cookie cutters cut out different shapes. Using the drinking straw press down on top to create a hole so the ornament can have ribbon or a hook go through it.
- Place in a cookie sheet and bake at 250F for 2-3 hours until hardened.
- Allow to cool completely. Paint with glitter and coat with varnish.
- Allow to dry overnight.
- Add ribbon and gift tag!
- For Chocolate Salt Dough Ornaments add 1/4 cup cocoa to the mix.
- For Sugar Cookie ornaments add 1/4 cup sugar in the raw to the mix.

My kids had the biggest smiles on their faces as they hung the salt dough ornaments on our tree! We are using these homemade ornaments as gift toppers on many of the presents we will give! We also plan to hand them out to some of the residents at my Grandma’s nursing home!
This holiday season Costco is a great place to stock up on all of your P&G household products, which product will you purchase next?
