Once a year we all pile in the car and venture to Warwick, NY for apple picking. This time of year the ride to the orchard is scenic and the fall foliage is breathtaking. There are several apple orchards in Warwick and as we drive we pass the ones that have become very commercialized with rides, petting zoos, and activities. Don’t get me wrong those orchards are nice but we are looking to get away from the noise for a day and enjoy the apple picking experience.
We pull off the road to a place you can’t see and head up this big dirt road until we reach the grass parking lot. At Och’s Orchard we purchase a bag,a wagon, and a pole picker and head on our way in search of some sweet, crunchy apples.
When our bag and bellies are full we head down the hill to the general store for their amazing homemade apple cider donuts. We ate them so fast I did not have the chance to take a picture!
I love the smell of sweet, cinnamon apple cider donuts and they are so moist and warm they just melt in your mouth. I am making myself hungry 🙂
We always pick up some other great finds …like this year my hubby discovered their homemade almond butter! And we really like their apple butter as well.
Now its time to head home and make some delicious apple dishes! Below check out the recipes for our apple creations…you will find apple pie, apple cake, taffy apple pizza, apple dip, and apple crisp!

Apple Pie:
This recipe reminds me of my grandma who was forever making delicious apple pie, the kind whose smell and taste captivated the whole kitchen! My Gram doesn’t recall the pie crust recipe so I went on a search for the perfect pie crust! My search sent me to: www.designmom.com. Her pie crust is flawless and I have enjoyed making it for apple & pumpkin pie as well as quiche! You can also see the piecrust on my pinterest page under the board “piece of pie”.
Follow the directions for the pie crust! In a bowl add 8 cups sliced apples (I leave the peel on because I am lazy plus I figure part of the goodness is in the peel) 1/4 sugar 1/4 cornstarch 1 teaspoon cinnamon and mix together. Lay one pie crust on the bottom, add in apples, and lay the second pie crust over top. Pinch together the two crusts and baste the top with water, egg wash, or dabs of butter, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top for extra sweetness! Bake at 350 for at least 45min or when apples are soft! Serve hot or cold with ice cream or whipped cream! Enjoy 🙂
Apple Cake:
This recipe comes from my friend Bonnie who is an amazing baker! This recipe calls for an angel food cake pan…I don’t have one so I tried it out using a bundt pan and it worked out well! This moist, sweet cake is a great addition to your fall desserts!
Apple Taffy Pizza

This caramel tasting cream cheese dip with the added toffee crunch goes great with any type of apple! This is a great for an afternoon snack, dessert, or as a gift. Put some of the Apple dip in a mason jar, and put an apple on top or in a bag! This dip is simple to make and delicious to eat!
