Dr. Oz’s 3 Day Detox Cleanse

As a Mom of three, I am always on the move. I eat most meals on the go, standing up, or in the mom mobile. And now that it’s summertime the number of BBQs, graduation parties, cookouts, smores eating bonfire nights we experience are numerous! I do find little pockets of time to enjoy a meal, exercise and take a moment to take care of me. Lately, I have been feeling the need for a reset, a cleaning out and starting over with super healthy eating and getting back on track. I did a little digging on google and came across Dr. Oz’s 3 day detox cleanse.

I do not tune into Dr. Oz but I have heard excellent things and after a little research have come to find out that he is the real deal. I am excited! This detox cleanse is only three days, they give a shopping list, and I already eat everything listed! This will be the perfect thing to give me a jump start, I will feel better, and maybe lose a couple pounds to rock the bathing suit I have been putting off trying on.

My two biggest hurdles in doing this 3 day detox cleanse-I am not a real big fan of shakes, and that’s all you have for three days.  I drink an exuberant amount of coffee and that’s not allowed. Deep breathe…it’s only three days!

lunch shake

Day 1 is really hard because I am literally functioning in a fog from not having coffee, and green tea is just not the same. The breakfast shake is O.K., I am gagging on the lunch shake, and by dinner my head is pounding so much that I don’t even realize I am choking down the shake to subside the pangs of hunger. I never realized the powerful grip that coffee has on me!

By Day 2 the shakes are something of the past. I am now taking the ingredients and eating them. A banana with almond butter and flax seeds, kale and coconut oil made into kale chips, spinach salad with blueberries, avocado and mango.

I ask my hubby if it matters that I am eating all these things as solids versus liquids, he looks at me and says, “Why are you doing this again?” My mind is now foggier than yesterday with no coffee and I am not feeling energized in the least to be able to carry on with my day.

Day 3 comes with me preparing all the food once again in solid form. I am having to prep the family meals without picking on a single thing, which is so difficult because I am a picker. A bite for me before serving it to you, and I am surprisingly being really disciplined. I figure I have come this far what do I have to lose, except my mind!

I wake up on day four, early, and pour myself the biggest cup of coffee ever and savor the flavor. I did it, barely, and after the coffee has taken effect and the fog has finally lifted I think to myself it wasn’t that bad.

The positive things that came out of my 3 day detox cleanse experience:

*My body was definitely cleansed of all unnecessary things..if you know what I mean. 😉
*I lost 3 pounds!
*I felt more energy after it was all over!
*I cut down on my coffee intake, just by a smidge, I figure every little bit counts!
*I truly discovered that veggies shakes are not for me, and while this was only three days, this type of detox cleanse is not for me either! Now I know 🙂
