I have been drinking coffee for as long as I can remember. Actually, I remember perfectly the first sip of coffee I ever enjoyed. Now that we are a family of 5 there are some tips and tricks that we have learned along the way to help ease the craziness of the morning rush. 

Wake up early.

My hubby and I have found this to be a key element to our success in the morning routine! We take this time to exercise, have a cup of coffee together and talk about the day, and enjoy a little quiet time.  I am not a morning person, so waking up early took some time for me to get used to, but it is a well worth it habit to get into!

Make breakfast and have it ready to go.

We have breakfast ready to go on the table for when the kids wake up. We look for easy, quick things to serve. My hubby and I take breakfast on the go!  The recipe featured below for energy bites is a great way to start the day! With just 5 ingredients that you may even have right now in your pantry, you can roll together these energy bites! They are hearty, yummy tasting and good for you too! What’s even better our whole family will eat them! 

Prep lunch ahead of time.

We pack most of our lunch the night before like waters and snacks. Fruit and veggies get put in little baggies and placed in the fridge. We make sandwiches fresh in the morning. Preparing a little the night before and a little the next morning is a time saver when the whole family needs to get out the door.

Set out clothes the night before.

As the kids have gotten older they are now setting out their own clothes and this is a habit that we started when they were very young. We find that it takes the pressure off trying to decide what to wear when you are short on time.

Write down the day’s activities for everyone to see!

We keep calendars on our phones, in a basket and sometimes on the table. We talk over breakfast about who has to be where and when. There are days when we feel like our home is a revolving door and our car is turned into a car service for taking our kids from one activity to the next.  Someone recently encouraged me to enjoy these days for they will soon be gone! 

These energy bites come together in no time at all, and you can double the recipe and even add our own pop of flavors. Our family loves the combination of peanut butter and chocolate! I love the added nutty, grainy flavor that the flaxseed meal adds to these energy bites.

On The Go Energy Bites

Serves: 15

Ingredients
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • ½ cup milk chocolate chips
  • ½ cup ground flaxseed meal
  • ½ cup crunchy peanut butter
  • ⅓ cup honey

Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Roll into 1 inch balls. I use my cookie scooper or a tablespoon.
  4. Arrange energy bites on a cookie sheet.
  5. Place in fridge for one hour before enjoying.

Keep refrigerated!
