Irish Brown Bread Recipe

A simple Irish Brown Bread Recipe made with 7 ingredients!

Last summer I went to my first Irish pub and loved the atmosphere and food! I married a meat and potatoes Irish guy and I have tried to perfect making mashed potatoes over the almost 17 years that we have been married.

I am still working on the mashed potatoes! At the Irish Pub I ordered the platter named The Taste Of Ireland. My plate was filled with the best Irish food. I never knew that meat and potatoes could taste so delicious!

In addition, to the all the meat and potatoes was a thick slice of Irish Brown Bread slathered in butter. The bread had a crusty outside, soft inside, and a slight tangy taste. There was something delicious about it that made me want to eat the entire slice.

I have been thinking about that Irish Brown Bread ever since. Thinking about St. Patrick’s Day coming up reminded me of this amazing, plain tasting bread.

Irish Brown Bread is traditionally enjoyed with butter, a slice of Irish cheese, or with a rich dish like Irish Beef Stew. I made this bread to go with the Irish Beef Stew we were having for dinner! I made Rosemary Butter to go with the bread, and the taste of fresh rosemary added great flavor to the bread!

The Irish Brown Bread requires no time to rise! Need an arm workout? This bread dough will be sure to give it to you as it takes a little arm muscle to knead this mostly whole wheat dough.

The first time I made this bread it came out as hard as a hockey puck! This bread is supposed to be hard and dense, but not that dense!! I tweaked the recipe to get that just right Irish Brown Bread taste!
