90 Minute Playroom Pickup

I don’t know why I bother trying to keep the playroom clean, organized, or even neat. It never stays that way..ever. Most of the time the organized chaos doesn’t bother me except today we have a last minute overnight guest due to arrive in 90 minutes and you have to walk through the playroom to get to the guest room. Turns out the kids think the guest bedroom is part of their playroom so it’s just as messy. What can I do in 90 minutes to make sense of all this or at least clear a path to get to the bedroom? I can’t shove it all in a closet, it’s not big enough, believe me the thought entered my mind!

Our kids are in transition from still playing with all the little toys to getting close to leaving them behind in exchange for the video games, tablets, and American girl dolls that have taken their place.

A playroom makeover is coming as a Christmas present and I plan to tap into Pinterest for some creative ideas!

For now, I only have 90 minutes, I need to get right to work.  Thank goodness dinner is done and I keep {rice krispie} ingredients on hand for dessert. 🙂

Here is what I did to organize this play room in 90 minutes:

I saved only the toys that they still play with and ones that have a lot of memories. The rest went into lovely black garbage bags! I used every basket and organized toys by theme.

I used a book shelf for all the books and some plastic trays for odds and ends.

I broke down the toys that could be- like the girl’s doll strollers that take up tons of space.

I also took out some totes and labeled them according to the toys and placed  lids on some.  That way it all stays in one place .

I took thumb tacks and made them hooks to hang all the princess dresses.

I took an old tablecloth and cut the edges and hung them with decorative tacks. I used clips to hang the papers. It’s a great way to get the papers off the ground and it displays the kids artwork at the same time!

Sweet, all cleaned for today! Even if it’s only for a day our overnight guest can walk to their room without breaking a limb. Five big garbage bags, lots of baskets, totes, thumb tacks, shelves, and clips later we have a 90 minute playroom pickup success!
