5 Life Lessons from Disney Pixar’s A Good Dinosaur plus a Pinterest Board of Activities & more!
This school year we started a new tradition with our kids of letting them take personal days from school! On these days, my hubby and I let them choose how they would like to spend their day! For our blonde sweet girl, it was lunch at Panera, shopping at Justice, and heading to the movies to see Disney Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur.
Disney movies always create amazing animation, heartwarming stories, and characters you instantly fall in love with. We laugh and cry at every movie, and the Good Dinosaur was no exception! The world of dinosaurs invites you along on one family’s journey as they try and make a home and a living in a sometimes unforgiving land with unforeseen circumstances.
This action packed movie has you rooting for the little guy in hopes that he too can make his mark on the world! Arlo’s spell binding adventure has you smiling, wiping away tears, and hoping that things will be ok in the end!
After the movie, we were walking back to the car and our blonde sweet girl looks at us and says, “What lessons do you learn from the movie.”
And so here is a little piece of our conversation from that day…
5 Life Lessons from Disney Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur:
Reach For The Stars: Arlo’s family were great and mighty dinosaurs who each had their own unique talents. These talents allowed them to do great things for their family’s farm that allowed them to earn their keep and ultimately a footprint on the tower. They aimed high, reaching for the stars as they worked together as a family. We say to our kids often that as a family we are a team, working together, and lifting one another up so that we can aim high and reach for the stars.
Overcome Your Fears: Arlo struggled with fear. Fear of not measuring up, fear of the job he was given on the family’s farm, and the fear of not making his mark. When Arlo was carried downstream away from the only place he had ever known, he had to face his fears straight on. We tell our kids often that it is alright to have fear but have a plan to overcome it and face it straight on. Some fear is healthy fear and that’s ok because out of that fear lies respect for another.
Be Confident In Who You Are: As Spot and Arlo embarked on their adventure to find their way back to Arlo’s family they were faced with tough choices and dangerous situations. With each challenge that rolled their way Arlo grew more and more confident in who he was. He needed to believe in himself and to have the confidence that he could move forward one step at a time! We encourage our kids every day to be the best that they can be, believe in themselves, and be confident in the great people that they are growing up to be!
Know That You Will Do Great Things: When Arlo began to be confident in his choices, and in his steps there was no stopping the motivation that propelled him to get back to his family! When he got knocked down and felt like giving up he got back up again and kept on moving! Often it was with the help of his new friend Spot. When someone let’s you know that you can do great things it helps give you the encouragement and excitement to continue on the journey to greatness!
The Love Of Family: From the first moments of the movie until the end the love of family is a central theme. It is what kept the dinosaur family together long after their loss, and it’s what made Arlo fight so hard to find his way home. Having people around you that love you no matter what, through the good, bad and the ugly. People who are willing to go to bat for you and ride out life’s storms with you, who come to your rescue. That’s the love of family.
After a sweet moment of reunion, the movie ends with Arlo reaching high and making his mark on the tower!
