Recently my hubby and I were setting the calendars on our phone with all the spring sports schedules, activities, weekend getaways, and birthday activities we have coming up in the next few months. Needless to say, our schedules are really jammed packed this spring. I write a lot on the blog about being busy and on the go and how our family still manages to eat healthy even when there’s not a lot of time.
Today, I am sharing 5 healthy eating tips that are super easy and that has allowed our family to get the good nutrition that we need to stay fueled through our busy days. Just as important as what you eat, is what you drink!
Our family is very active and staying hydrated is key. Our kid’s coaches are always reminding them that being hydrated for a game starts from the moment they wake up. Eat healthy and drinking lots help to keep you going all day long.

Here are our healthy eating tips for our busy family:
Prep food the night before– This has been not only a time saver but also a way to be able to eat healthy. Instead of grabbing a quick bag of chips we pack a baggie of our snack mix or fresh veggies. We prep as much of our lunch as we can, and also dinner. I marinate meats, cut up veggies to eat raw or steamed, and even cook rice/grains or pasta ahead of time so that we can just reheat.
Meals in the crock pot- I use my crock pot year round to create all kinds of dishes from salsa chicken to pot roast. Making meals in the crock pot makes dinner all ready to go when we walk in the door!
Taking time to sit down and eat- We make it a point to take time to sit down and eat even if it’s just for 15 minutes. Taking time to sit will allow you not only to eat your food a little slower for easier digestion, it also gives you some time with your family and is a great opportunity to share about your day.
Stay hydrated- Keeping fueled up by drinking is just as important as eating. Staying hydrated for the day ahead allows you to have energy, remain focused, and helps keep you going all day long. Without the proper amount of fluid, you can become more tired and may even get a headache. - 1 cup pretzel sticks
- 1 cup organic banana chips
- 1 cup dry roasted unsalted organic almonds
- ½ cup organic dried cranberries
- ½ cup chocolate covered dried cranberries
- Add all ingredients to a large mixing bowl
- Stir all ingredients together.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
