Our family loves to entertain! We host parties, get-togethers, kid sleepovers, couples dinners, and playdates as often as we can! Through the years we have learned several things about how to make entertaining simple, and how to make your guests feel right at home!
We have come up with 5 easy tips for hosting and these tips come with a FREE printable checklist to help you keep track of what needs to get done before your guests arrive!
Tidy up the area where guests will be hanging out
This is a very important tip! If I skipped this step before having guests over it would be disastrous! Our guests would have to jump over the sea of shoes, weave through the trail of toys, sit at a table with sticky spots all over, and wade through a pile of blankets to find the couch cushions. Since we love to have people over and we want them to keep coming back we take a quick 15 minutes to straighten up the area where we know that will be hanging out. It’s the little things like tidying up that make a big difference it making your guests feel welcome!
Clean bathrooms
This tip goes right along with the first one! I am not sure what lingers behind your bathroom door but ours isn’t always pretty. Our main bathroom is also the kids’ bathroom so at any given moment there is a trail of toys, nail clippings, wet towels, and toilet seat up action going on. There have been times when I have forgotten to clean the bathroom beforehand and I suddenly remember when I hear the click of the door locking. So embarrassing. That’s where the checklist really comes in handy because I can check it off and know it’s been done beforehand!
Add a personal touch to cups by adding name labels beforehand
This is a tip that I have just recently created because all of our cold drinking cups are the exact same! It makes it impossible to tell whose cup is whose after awhile. Sometimes I will use a glass marker but I have found that the labels add a nice personal touch that stays on all night long. I create name labels, print them, cut them out, and using double-sided tape I adhere them to the cup. I then line all the cups up by the cold drinks and ice bucket and let the guests know that they each have their own cup!
Spread out the food and drinks so guests can mingle
I love serving different munchies and appetizers before the main meal. Not only does serving appetizers allow people to mingle, it also buys you the extra time that you might need to put the finishing touches on the main meal! Over time we invested in some card tables that we set up around the area where we are hanging out. This allows guests to mingle around the room and not all be bunched up in one corner. If we are entertaining families, I set up a kids table complete with juice boxes, games, and chips!
