Bananas in a buttery sweet with a kick of rum sauce topped with vanilla ice cream!
We love American Idol and bananas! What in the world do the two have in common?!
The decadent fruit dessert bananas foster came to life in the 1950s in New Orleans! New Orleans was a port to many bananas being shipped in from Central and South America! A restaurant owner challenged his head chef to create a delicious dessert featuring the imported fruit. And so Bananas Foster was born and is still served in many restaurants in New Orleans today!
The American Idol tie-in comes because Harry Connick Jr. makes it known loud and proud that he lives in New Orleans! We are really enjoying the last season of memorable moments that American Idol is known for!
We eat a lot of bananas in our house! I love watching the clerks at the grocery store raise one eyebrow when they see the number of bananas they have to scan! I usually smile and say I am feeding a bunch of monkeys!
There are times when my monkeys don’t eat as many bananas and they start to turn funky colors! The bananas that is not the kids! It means one of three things are going to be made: Banana Bread, Banana Smoothies, or Bananas Foster. Sometimes I think they let them sit just so I’ll make one of the three!
Today on the menu is easy Bananas Foster! 5 ingredients and 5 minutes is all it takes for this delicious dessert to come together!
