With Fourth of July around the corner and my bursting with berries series kicked into full gear, I decided to show off my patriotic fruit skewers! The sweetness of the berries with the deliciousness
of the cake makes this red, white, and blue dessert a party in my mouth! Serve this alongside some fresh whipped cream at your Fourth of July shin dig!
Patriotic Fruit Skewers
Ingredients
- 1 pound cake or angel food cake
- 1 star cookie cutter
- 12 wood skewer sticks
- 16 ounce container strawberries
- 1 pint blueberries
Instructions
- Cut cake into thick slices
- Places the star cookie cutter into the cake and pop out the star shape, set stars aside
- Wash berries
- Cut tops off the strawberries
- Stack 5 blueberries on top of the skewer
- From the bottom of the skewer stack a star and then a strawberry, repeat until skewer is full
- You may have extra berries, or you can build skewers until you run out! Don’t waste the cake edges, eat them or use them to make a parfait 🙂
