These gone fishing cupcakes are bakery-style cupcakes with blue water frosting, crunchy cracker sand, a salty pretzel fishing pole, and some chewy candies to tie it all together!
Summer fun in our family means time spent at the pool, lake, and beach! We love the lazy days of soaking up the sun, hanging out with friends, and spending endless hours in the water! We enjoy all the ways that you can spend time around water from the games to boating!
Recently, my parents took my blonde sweet girl fishing and she loved it! She can not wait to go back to feel the next nibble on the end of her fishing pole as her little hands grip tighter and reel in slowly!
These gone fish cupcakes are to celebrate my blonde sweet girl’s new found love for spending time with Grammy and Pa and catching a few fish along the way!
It also happens to be shark week where tons of people tune in to watch extraordinary shark tales! These gone fishing cupcakes are the perfect cupcake to create in the kitchen this week! These moist, sweet cupcakes taste like they came straight from a bakery and will be a crowd pleaser for sure!
Gone Fishing Cupcakes
Ingredients
- 1-15.25 ounce box vanilla or yellow cake mix
- 1 cup butter-melted
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tub blue frosting*
- 3 graham cracker sheets-crushed
- 3 Twizzlers pull and peel
- 24 Swedish fish
- 24 pretzel sticks
Instructions
- Preheat Oven to 350F
- Line muffin pan with cupcake liners.
- In a bowl blend together the butter, and eggs.
- Blend in the cake mix and milk alternating between the two to allow for a smooth batter.
- Spoon a little less than 1/4 cup into each cupcake liner.
- Bake cupcake at 350F for 14-16 minutes.
- Remove and cool completely.
- While the cupcakes bake let’s create those yummy fishing poles.
- Pull apart a Twizzler piece and wrap it around the top of the pretzel stick, slightly squeeze the twizzler to stay in place.
- Wrap the other end of the twizzler around the swedish fish and again slightly squeeze.
- You can make the fishing pole as long as you would like!
- Frost each cupcake! To create the waves use a small spreader or butter knife spread the frosting on and gently lift the spreader up and allow the frosting to make a crest. Repeat around one side of the cupcake.
- Around the other side of the cupcake create the sandy shore by evenly spreading some crushed graham crackers.
- Place the pretzel rod into the cupcake on the sandy side! Prop the fish either on sand or in water!
- Enjoy!

Notes
*I used Pillsbury Aqua Blue Vanilla Funetti Frosting. It came with the fish sprinkles!
Sky is the limit with these cupcakes as you can change the flavor cake, graham cracker, and frosting to create a different taste! This recipe makes 24 gone fishing cupcakes that also can be refrigerated to last longer! After creating some of the fishing poles I realized that this is a great kids in the kitchen activity, and my kids helped me create the rest!

Those are adorable! I'm always amazed at how creative and patient people can be with decorating food… I'm not so good at it. But we keep trying, so I'll stash this idea away for the future.
Thanks!
