I made the crumb cake and it was a disaster! I am so disappointed and it was such an expensive cake to make. Is the recipe correct? 4 sticks (one pound!) of butter for the crumbs? It was just a gooey butter lake on top of the cake. 🙁
I feel terrible that the crumb cake recipe was a disaster! I could cry!!! It is an expensive cake to make!!!
Let me see if I can figure out what could have gone wrong! Hmm…
I just double checked and the recipe is correct! The crumbs are on the moist side. Based on what happened I am thinking that maybe the butter was to soft? The butter needs to be soft to create the crumb but not so soft that it is almost melted. Also, if the crumbs appear to be super gooey as you are making them add more flour.
Oh, another thing the recipe calls for it to be a 9×13! Super important so that the crumbs are spread out evenly!!
The pictures that you see in the post are exactly how the crumb should turn out with that cracked look, moist but dry at the same time!
Your timing is perfect, I wrote that post last year and since my move to WordPress it was on my list to re-create and make the pictures and steps easier and more clear. I will add in step by step photos of the process so people can see exactly what it should look like each step of the way!
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do!!! Thank you so much for letting me know, it helps as I write! 🙂
