I’ll never forget the first year my oldest went to Kindergarten. We were both learning about how things at the school worked and there were a lot of ins and outs that you needed to know about! Not all of them were communicated, some of them you needed to figure out on your own.
One of those things had to do with Valentine’s Day.
When I was growing up you filled out Valentine’s cards for everyone and you attached a little candy to the card and you enjoyed cupcakes while opening each card! When I was an Elementary School Teacher the same rules applied. Somewhere between my growing up, teaching, and becoming a parent the rules changed.
Before I knew that candy was no longer cool, and bringing in cupcakes was a thing of the past I went ahead and prepared both!
My sweet boy and I filled out all his cards and taped a big lollipop to each one! He sent them to school along with the cupcakes on the day of his party!
That afternoon I peppered him with questions about the party, the cards, etc. He showed me everything that he had been given and told me about everything he had enjoyed eating. Stickers and pencils. Carrot sticks and fruit.
I looked in his book bag and noticed the tray of cupcakes and not one was touched.
On top, a bright pink sticky note was there telling me no cupcakes allowed at parties.
Then I noticed that the bag my sweet boy had sent his cards in was still full.
Another bright sticky note on top. No candy allowed on cards.
And that is how I learned that there is no cupcakes or candy on cards at the school’s Valentine’s Day party. 🙂
Five years later, we get creative with the sweet treats and what we attach to the Valentine’s Day cards!
This year me kids are letting everyone know how sharp they are with these Valentine Pencil Toppers! They are fun, easy, and inexpensive! And that get a thumbs up from me!
